From Lukewarm to Life-Giving

I love the LORD. But I am so tired. Overwhelmed. Busy. Defeated.

Do you take care of everyone but yourself? Are you the person who keeps things running smoothly, no matter how harried and chaotic things might be inside of your head and heart?

Lovely, you are not lukewarm because you don't love God. You're just busy loving on everyone else. Making your children's lunches, washing and folding your husband's clothes, rushing off to work your 9-5, and then steadying your famous cinnamon rolls with one hand while you drive to the women's prayer meeting with the other.

God already knew that you would crawl into bed exhausted some nights. And He gave you a solution.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”—Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

You're being invited into a deeper story. Spiritual exhaustion happens when you keep on pouring of yourself without returning to the Source of Living Water.

So, before you feel guilty for missing your morning Bible reading or whispering a prayer in the elevator up to your office because there wasn't time while you were rushing to get ready.....remember this; God already loves you so much! He cannot love you any more than He does at this very moment.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us.”

—1 John 4:10 (NIV)

Sometimes the most spiritual thing a woman can do is be still. Rest.

No matter how hard we try, what planner or system we use, what we try to fit in on our 10-minute breaks or during the baby's naptime, there are only so many hours in the day. Be kind to yourself. Stop pushing so hard.

Here are a few small, grace-filled ways to sprinkle time with God throughout your day. To make Him a part of your full life. To give Him the importance He deserves.

  1. Be purposeful. Five honest minutes with God is more powerful than a rushed hour of Bible study while you're worried about getting dinner on the table. Sit. Breathe. Say His mighty name. That is prayer.

  2. Let Scripture wash over you. Choose a verse and carry it with you for an entire week. Write it on sticky notes and put it on your mirror, your car visor, your lunch bag. Let that Scripture rest in your heart.

  3. Be present. All day long notice God. A thank you for a good breakfast. An acknowledgement of the sunrise. A whispered prayer at the sink while washing dishes. Make talking to God like breathing.

Remember, God is always near. He loves you. And He specializes in gentle fire.

“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.”

—Isaiah 42:3 (NIV)

I have created a set of printable prayer cards. You can tuck them into a Bible, planner, or purse so they are there when you need them.

You can download them HERE.

We would love to have you as part of our new Well-Versed Women community. It's a safe place to share ideas, ask questions, get support, and love the LORD together.

Walking wisely with you,
