Focus to Flourish: How to Surrender Your Day to God

Each month of the year I'm focusing on a new way to grow closer to the LORD. It started last year; however, life began lifing very hard from January. It started with COVID (my second bout and still quite serious), then in April uncontrolled diabetes. I started a health journey, lost 80 pounds, went through many health issues with family and my fiance's family, and horrible depression and anxiety for most of the year. WHEW.

But God. But God. He didn't let me give up entirely. I did get about helof the year completed and I certainly grew closer in my walk with Him! So, I'm going to call it a win. I read the entire Bible in a year as well, and that felt really good!

Just less than two weeks ago, He told me to come back to this project. So, here I am. I am going to obey and do what He is urging me to do.

June is fasting and surrender. And I will be completely honest with you right here - I FAILED my first fast. I was supposed to fast today and I had an issue with work and my first thought was to drown out the noise with food. And yes, I am mad at myself. But, I will try again.

Please see below for a day filled with SURRENDER:

A Full Day of Surrender

Theme Verse

Luke 22:42 (NIV)“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Morning

Offer Your Day to God Before Touching Your Phone

Before checking notifications, pause and pray:

Lord, this day belongs to You. My plans, my worries, my hopes, my work, and my relationships are Yours. Lead me today. Help me walk in obedience, peace, and trust. Not my will, but Yours be done. Amen.

Action:

  • Place your hand over your heart

  • Take 3 slow breaths

  • Thank God for specific blessings

  • Verbally surrender your schedule

Scripture Writing & Reflection

Suggested Scriptures:

  • Proverbs 3:5–6

  • Romans 12:1–2

  • Psalm 46:10

Action:

  • Write one passage by hand

  • Underline words about trust, yielding, or obedience

  • Journal:

    • What am I holding too tightly today?

    • What do I need to release?

    • Where is God asking for trust?

Worship While Preparing for the Day

Ideas:

  • Play worship music while showering or dressing

  • Choose songs focused on trust and surrender

  • “Trust in God”

Action:

Turn ordinary preparation into worship.

Surrender Your Work

Dedicate Your Tasks

Before starting work, chores, caregiving, or errands:

  • Ask God to order them

  • Release perfectionism

  • Focus on faithfulness over control

Practice Mini-Surrenders Throughout the Day

When stress arises:

  • Take a breath

  • Offer the moment to God

  • Pray briefly

Example Prayer:

Jesus, I release this to You.

Afternoon: Reset Your Heart

Midday Check-In

Ask Yourself:

  • Am I operating in peace or control?

  • Have I picked back up worries?

  • Do I need to surrender disappointment or frustration?

Action:

  • Read Matthew 11:28–30

  • Sit quietly for 5 minutes

  • Open your hands physically as a symbol of release

Serve Someone Intentionally

Surrender often means dying to self.

Ideas:

  • Pray for someone

  • Perform an unnoticed act of kindness

  • Release your own agenda to bless another

Evening: Lay Down the Day

Reflect with Gratitude

Journal Prompts:

  • Where did I surrender well today?

  • Where did I resist God?

  • What burdens do I still need to release?

  • How did God show His faithfulness?

Action:

Write 3 ways God was present.

Release Tomorrow

Evening Prayer:

Father, I give You every success, failure, fear, and unfinished task from today. I trust You with tomorrow. Teach me to rest in Your sovereignty. Amen.

Symbolic Practice:

  • Write worries on paper

  • Place them in a prayer journal or box

  • Physically release them

Night: Rest in Surrender

End with Scripture

Suggested Passage:

Psalm 4:8“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

Action:

  • Avoid anxious scrolling

  • Meditate on God’s peace

  • Sleep knowing God is in control

Even doing this once per week feels like I will really touch base with the LORD and grow our relationship. I will let you know how this goes. If you plan on doing any of these steps - let me know in the comments below!
